This four-part series introduces the protection officer
to many unique factors that need to be considered
when securing a public or special event. Developed
to provide exposure to the management and "big
picture" functions required to efficiently manage
public events; each module gives the protection officer
insight into how he or she fits into the strategic
security plan.
Topics covered in this series illuminate the challenges
officers must consider in the areas of security, terrorism
and "critical incident management." These
issues include weapons of mass destruction (WMD),
mass casualties, and the role the private protection
officer plays in the Incident Command System (ICS).
Other topics in this series cover crowd control,
pre-event planning, radio operations, traffic management,
and medical planning. Excerpts from the landmark City
of Cincinnati's Task Force on Crowd Control and Safety
are also examined in detail.
