Continuing Education

The International Foundation for Protection Officers (IFPO) and High Impact Training Solutions® have made available computer based and On-line training courses for security officers and professionals. The Professional Development Program Series allows you to select individual lessons of interest for continuing education. Security professionals should complete the Officer Basic Training (OBT) and the Officer Specialty Training (OST) for their appropriate Career Tracks prior to selecting individual courses for continuing education. Officer Certified Training (OCT) is also highly recommended for security professionals. Corporate managers and supervisors can use these courses to understand security challenges and solutions.


40 Hour Basic Protection Officer

The 40-Hour Basic Protection Officer (BPO) training course is presented in 11 units, which cover a broad range of subjects including the duties and responsibilities of the protection officer. The information presented ensures protection officers have the professional expertise to carry out the important mission of protecting people, property, and information.

California Law for Security Officers

This training course is geared towards security officers who must be familiar with misdemeanors, felonies and other specific offenses in the state of California. The course also introduces regulations concerning security services and private investigators.

Certified Protection Officer

The Certified Protection Officer (CPO) Program is a comprehensive distance-learning course designed for self-paced study to accommodate candidates who are unable to attend structured training in a classroom environment. The CPO course was created by International Foundation for Protection Officers (IFPO) to provide useful, consolidated security training for protection officers throughout the security industry.

Certified Protection Officer Final Challenge

The Certified Protection Officer (CPO) Final Challenge Program is a fast track method to obtain CPO certification that significantly reduces the time of study required to achieve the CPO designation. This program eliminates the midterm/interim examination in preparation for the Final Examination as required in the regular CPO course of study. Candidates must have six months full time protection officer experience (or the equivalent and two professional references.

Crime and Loss Investigation Program

The Crime and Loss Investigation Program teaches the essential components of investigation within both public Law Enforcement and the rapidly expanding field of Security/Loss Prevention. The topics covered include Interviewing, Report Writing, Surveillance, Intelligence, Undercover Investigation, Background Investigation and Crime Scene Procedures.

Cultural Awareness

This eight (8) hour training course is designed to define culture and the effects of culture on communication. Population trends and demographic analysis, their impact on the cultural climate in the United States, and different types of communication and cultural context indicators or preferences among various cultures are introduced.

DNA Series

The DNA Series is a two CD set with interactive crime scenarios covering essential training in the fundamentals of properly preserving, collecting, handling and storing DNA evidence. "DNA Evidence for First Responders" is presented from the perspective of the first responders who secure a crime scene. "DNA Evidence for Evidence Collectors" is tailored to professionals who collect and process crime scene evidence.

Executive Protection

This three (3) part series of training courses defines executive protection as a system of close personal protection, educational programs, and contingency planning which is applicable to all types of individuals - not just executives. Each course is approximately one hour of training and is of definite value to anyone facing "targeted" violence.

Fire Safety

Fire prevention is a traditional task of the private protection or security officer. The initial response to a fire can be crucial in determining the extent of damage, injury, or death. This course will focus on the components of fire, classes of fires, fire extinguishers, an overview of HAZMAT and fire hazards, as well as emergency response procedures.

First Aid

It is important that security officers have some basic first responder knowledge and know their responsibilities to the parties involved in an emergency. This module introduces first responder actions during a medical emergency: primary and secondary survey procedures, shock symptoms and treatment, substance abuse awareness, wounds and bleeding, fractures, and heat, cold, and head injuries. Cardiac emergencies and CPR are also introduced.

First Responder Training Network

The First Responder Training network is a subscription-based, online training program that consists of over 3,000 courses in the areas of Security, Law Enforcement, Business, and Information Technology (IT). Some of the courses included in the Security library are the Entry Level Protection Officer course (ELPO), the Basic Protection Officer course (BPO), the Executive Protection series, the Physical Security series and the Retail Loss Prevention series. This program provides a user one-year unlimited access to all of these courses.

Florida Law for Security Officers

HAZMAT

Hazardous materials, used and stored in homes, shipped daily on the nation's highways, railroads, waterways, and pipelines, and estimated to be manufactured or stored in 4.5 million facilities in the United States, are considered dangerous to people and the environment. Security officers are considered first responders at the awareness level and must be trained to respond to incidents involving hazardous materials.

Homeland Security

The eight (8) modules of the Homeland Security series address the needs of today's protection officer in the context of terrorism, domestic preparedness and weapons of mass destruction. Building on the traditional officer's mission to "observe and report," the homeland security series prepares private sector officers to be alert for, and respond to, today's rapidly changing security environment.

Interviews & Interrogations

This module provides a general overview of interview and interrogation protocols commonly used in private security operations. The content stresses the importance of gathering facts, working with suspects and subjects, and selecting interview strategies. Content will identify the components of effective interview and interrogation techniques and address interview preparation to include selection of appropriate time and place to gather facts.

Legal Concepts

The Legal Concepts course introduces the security officer to various legal aspects such as terminology, differences between civil and criminal law, and liability issues. General knowledge of arrest, detention, search and seizure, as well as use of force will be addressed but each state and jurisdiction will have specific policies concerning these issues.

Physical Security

The five (5) modules of the Physical Security series examine basic security practices. Fundamentals include layered security, integrated systems, defense in depth, and types of protective lighting. The modules also discuss the purpose of electronic access systems, their capabilities, and challenges, intrusion detection systems, and closed-circuit television (CCTV).

Public Events Security

The four (4) modules of the Public Events series discusses the direct impact that the actions, professionalism, and efficiency of the security staff or individual security officers on public events. A public event requires effective command and control, adequate communication systems, and assigning types of security by their capabilities and limitations.

Retail Loss Prevention

The three (3) modules of Retail Loss Prevention address the challenging protective functions that expose an officer to physical risks and legal liability in retail security. The modules introduce civil recovery, risks and interaction, and six steps of probable cause in internal and external theft protection.
